Carolina One FAQ

Below are some common questions regarding Carolina One Volleyball club programs. For more information on how our club compares to other volleyball clubs in South Carolina, please visit our page highlighting the C1 Difference. For more information on our tryout process, see our Tryout FAQs.

How long does the season last?

The length of the season varies depending on the level of team you commit to. For Elite and National teams, the season will run from tryouts in October or November through the National championship tournaments in late June or early July. The season for Power teams runs from tryouts in October or November through early April, with the exception of those teams which elect to participate in the National championship tournaments in late June. The season for State and Regional teams runs from tryouts in October or November to early April, and the season for Juniors teams runs from November through early March.

Will I play the same position I play in school?

We will make every effort to train you in the position you play at school. However, at times a team's dynamic requires that we train you at a secondary or new position. You should be willing to play any reasonable position.

Does Carolina One guarantee equal playing time?

For our travel teams, Carolina One does not guarantee equal playing time at tournaments. We do guarantee fair playing time for each player, taking into consideration skill level, attitude, attendance, commitment, position, and performance in practice. Players on Juniors teams will receive equal playing time as much as possible. State and Regional level players should expect to receive some playing time at all tournaments, but may not receive exactly equal playing time. Power, Elite, and National team players should expect to compete to earn playing time. Carolina One's policy on playing time can be found in our Travel Team Policies.

What happens if I am unhappy with my playing time?

The player and only the player can discuss playing time with a coach. The only appropriate time to do so is before or after practice, not during practice, and absolutely not during a tournament. Players are encouraged to set up a time with their coach(es) to meet about playing time.

What is the cost and what does it cover?

Carolina One attempts to provide the highest quality programming for the lowest possible cost. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and we are dedicated to attending competitive, affordable tournaments. Our club fees cover coaching fees, gym costs, region registration fees, additional performance training, tournament registration fees, and uniform expenses, but do not include any travel expenses (food, transportation, or lodging) associated with tournaments. You can expect the total club fee to be between $450 and $2500, depending on the level of the team, the tournaments attended, and the number of girls on the team. We will make every effort to keep costs as low as possible, and cost per team may vary depending on which tournaments the team decides to attend. We believe that cost should never be a factor in whether or not an athlete can participate in our program, so please contact us if you have concerns. Visit our Club Fees page to view details about our fees for 2016-17, and visit our Fundraising page for more information about available fundraisers.

What tournaments will we travel to?

The final tournament schedule will be up to the club director and board of directors, and is dependent upon the level of the team. Juniors teams will attend 2-3 half-day tournaments within the Palmetto Region. State teams will play in 5 tournaments within the Palmetto Region. Regional and Power teams will attend approximately half of their tournaments within the Palmetto Region, but will also attend tournaments in neighboring regions. Elite and National teams will attend the minimum required 2 Palmetto Region tournaments and will primarily attend out-of-region tournaments, including the AAU National Championships or the USAV Girls Junior National Championships.

How many players will be on each team?

Each team will have between 8 and 12 players depending on the level. Junior and State teams will consist of 8-9 players, Regional and Power teams will have 8-10, and Elite and National teams typically will have 9-12 players.

Where do we practice?

All Greenville teams practice at the Imagine Center, the Pavilion, and other local schools and churches in Greenville. All Pickens teams will practice at the Pickens Rec Center.

What if I play a school sport?

We will make every effort to accommodate school athletic schedules. However, we do expect our athletes to be at practices and tournaments when they do not have a school match or meet and to notify their coaches as early as possible of any conflicts. Athletes on Elite and National Teams will be expected to place club volleyball above any school sports.
