Program FAQ

How long does the season last?

For Regional and National teams, the season will run from tryouts in October or November through mid-April, with the exception of those teams who qualify for Nationals, which takes place in late June or early July. The season for State teams runs from tryouts in October or November to early March, and the season for City teams runs from January through March.

Will I play the same position I play in school?

We will make every effort to train you in the position you play at school. However, at times a team's dynamic requires that we train you at a secondary or new position. You should be willing to play any reasonable position.

Does Carolina One guarantee equal playing time?

Carolina One does not guarantee equal playing time at tournaments. We believe that because the majority of hours are spent in practice time, parents and players are paying for quality training, not for equal playing time. We will guarantee fair playing time for each player, taking into consideration skill level, attitude, commitment, position, and performance in practice.

What happens if I am unhappy with my playing time?

The player and only the player can discuss playing time with a coach. The only appropriate time to do so is before or after practice, not during practice, and absolutely not during a tournament.

What is the cost and what does it cover?

The club fee will be determined based on coaching fees and tournament costs. The fees cover all coaching, gym, tournament, and uniform expenses, but do not include any travel expenses (food, transportation, or lodging) associated with tournaments. You can expect the total club fee to be between $300 and $1500, depending on the level of the team, the tournaments attended, and the number of girls on the team. We will make every effort to keep costs as low as possible, and cost per team may vary depending on which tournaments the team decides to attend. We believe that cost should never be a factor in whether or not an athlete can participate in our program, so please contact us if you have concerns. Visit our fees & fundraising page to view details about our fees for 2011-12.

What tournaments will we travel to?

The final tournament schedule will be up to each team's coach and the club director and is dependent upon the level of the team. City teams will not travel to tournaments. State teams will play only in tournaments within the Palmetto Region. Regional teams will attend most tournaments within the Palmetto Region, but will also attend tournaments in neighboring regions. Power and National teams will attend at least 2 Palmetto Region tournaments and will primarily attend out-of-region tournaments, including at least one National Qualifier.

How many players will be on each team?

Each team will have between 8 and 12 players depending on the level. City and State teams will consist of 8-9 players, while Regional and National teams typically will have 9-12 players.

Where do we practice?

All Greenville teams will practice at least one night a week at Potential Sports Academy in Greenville. Other facilities in the Greenville area include Shannon Forest, the Pavilion, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Golden Strip YMCA and Grace Baptist Church. All Pickens teams will practice at the Pickens Rec Center. Practice sites will be chosen based on the needs of the coaches and players as well as gym availability.

What if I play a school sport?

We will make every effort to accommodate school athletic schedules. However, we do expect our athletes to be at practices and tournaments when they do not have a school match or meet and to notify their coaches as early as possible of any conflicts. Athletes on Power and National Teams will be expected to place club volleyball above any school sports.
