Club History

November 2007

Kim Tonkin and Marta Lehman joined forces to incorporate Carolina One Volleyball, a Junior Olympic volleyball club based out of Greenville, S.C. in the Palmetto Region of USA Volleyball. The club's Board of Directors was formed shortly after, and tryouts took place for the inaugural season.

The Carolina One developmental program began at the Eastside YMCA. The program continued through the spring, and was then moved to the Pavilion during the summer to accommodate the large numbers of players.

December 2007

The first Carolina One teams were formed - 14s, 15s, and 17s, and practices began at the Alley Gymnasium on the campus of Furman University.

April 2008

Carolina One completed its first season with a solid showing at the Regional Championships. All three teams finished in the top half of their respective age divisions.

June/July 2008

Carolina One began using The Pavilion, a Greenville County Parks & Recreation Department building to host open gyms and skills sessions during the summer. The Carolina One Juniors program was re-established and held at The Pavilion as well.

October 2008

Tryouts began for the 2008-09 season with a record number of girls trying out for teams in both Pickens and Greenville.

November 2008

Carolina One announced its 2008-09 travel teams, doubling in size from three teams its inaugural year to six teams. The teams included two in Pickens and four in Greenville.

Carolina One partnered with the Brutontown Community Center to offer a non-travel youth volleyball league, as a revamped version of the Juniors program. 36 girls participated in the skills sessions during the first month.

January 2009

Carolina One sponsored its the first annual Palmetto Regiona tournament, the Carolina One Challenge on January 31st. The tournament saw 19 teams from across the Southeast participate.

The Carolina One non-travel program began with six teams in its first season.

June 2009

Carolina One hosted its first week-long summer camp at the Pavilion, along with a variety of other summer programs.

October/November 2009

Tryouts began for the 2009-10 season with a record number of girls trying out for teams in both Pickens and Greenville. Carolina One announced its 2009-10 travel teams, doubling in size from six teams to 13. The teams included seven State teams, a new offering in 2009-10 featuring limited tournament travel, and six Regional teams.

January 2010

Carolina One sponsored the second annual Carolina One Challenge. 55 teams participated in six divisions at four locations across the Upstate.

June 2010

Carolina One sent its first team to the AAU National Championship in Orlando, FL. The team competed in the 17s age division.

November 2010

Carolina One announced its 2010-11 teams - 16 total teams including 3 National teams.

January 2011

Carolina One captured its first tournament wins as a club: at the Myrtle Beach Volleyball Classic, 14 National won the 14 Open division and 17 Regional Pickens won the 17 Club Division.

April 2011

Carolina One captured its first top-ten finishes at the 2011 Palmetto Regional Championships. 15 National finished 5th, 16 National finished 4th, 17 Power finished 7th and 17 Regional Pickens finished 8th.
